Species: Check All That Apply
I don't know what brought you here. I don't know if you're a long-time Trek fan or if you've never seen an episode but I do know this: at some point, after watching a lot of Star Trek, you start having conversations with people about what species you would be. It's an inevitability.
I've found, through lots of soul-searching and other, even less quantitative means, that I'm half-Vulcan and half-Klingon. That's not to say that my parents are Vulcan and Klingon. They're actually Bajoran and Betazoid. Whatever, I know what I am. And, because I'm an artist, I spent some time working up what I would look like if I existed in the Star Trek universe:
Now, here's the exciting part: You can get one of these too!
It's a contest! It starts today! The prize is a Star Trek illustrated portrait of yourself!
Entering the contest is easy:
Just leave a comment below with your preferred Star Trek species.
But wait, that's not all! You can better odds with a little more work:
You get to add your name to the contest once for every time you share the blog. If you share it on Facebook, your name goes in again. If you share it on Pinterest, your name goes in again. If you tell a friend about it in Gchat or over the phone or in the bathroom stall next to you, your name goes in again.
For every time you spread the word about this contest, you get another entry. Just come back here and tell me that you did it. I'll add it all up.
So, if you: leave a comment, tell your BFF, post it on Facebook, and pin it to your geek board, you get 4 entries.
Now, go forth! Be proud of your Star Trek species! Spread the word!
The contest will be over in two weeks--on March 27th. If you have any questions, just ask!

Does the Q count? I love Q! If not, maybe Betazoid simply because I like to imagine I'm just as hot as Troi.
ReplyDeleteYes! Q counts!
DeleteOMG That's adorable!! I think I would be half Vulcan and half Ocampan. Oooooo fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteNow that would be adorable!
DeleteIf I could choose who I WANT to be, then it's Betazoid, but one of the crazy ones. But you know that I'm B'lenna Torres, half Klingon/half human. So just draw a picture of B'lenna and say that it's me.
ReplyDeleteCan do!
DeleteYou can always tell an alien on Star Trek by its human body and alien head.
ReplyDeleteTotally. Of course, that's all thanks to Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development.
DeleteThe TNG episode The Chase explains the 'humanoidness' of a lot of the aliens. #cough#Prometheus#cough#
DeleteYes! I love that episode. I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking, "Way to cover your bases, Star Trek!"
Deletelol kind of boring as it's mostly just EARS!! ;) heehee
ReplyDeleteTrue! But remember, you also get the species clothing!
DeleteAhhh yea woot woot! ;)
DeleteI would be a science officer, half Human/half Vulcan. While I would like to explore the galaxy I think it would also be nice to have the powers and live the simple life with the Ba'ku.
ReplyDeleteI also posted on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest
Thanks! I'll put your name in for each of your shares! I love the Ba'ku!
DeleteTop of the mornin' to ye! I've decided that for the time being I would be a Bringloidi. They know what is important in life.. (said with a wink). Did I miss St. Patrick's Day?.. Oh well..
ReplyDeleteHa! Sounds perfect. If you win, I'll have to include some hay and a couple of sheep. Would you want a velvety green jacket as well?
DeleteThat and a green bowler hat please-- with a plaid hatband!
DeleteThis is so much fun. I was debating between a bunch of different species. Species 8472 and Changelings got close, but I actually ended up deciding to be part of The Borg Collective. I think The Borg are really tragic and fascinating. I'd be terrified to actually be assimilated, but for some reason I kept coming back to The Borg as my choice. It would also be cool to see a drone in your art style. I'm sure you'll draw one eventually either way! Resistance is futile.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'll be sharing this on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.
Oooo! I was wondering if anyone was going to go with the Borg! How exciting!
DeleteWhat a great idea! I'd definitely be half Bajoran half Trill.
ReplyDeleteA Bajoran/Trill sounds amazing. You'd get the earring AND the spots!
DeleteI'd have the empathic abilities of a Betazoid and the sensibilities of a Denobulan... is that a Betanobuloid? A Denobetazan?
ReplyDeleteI'm not on any social networking sites, so I won't likely share it with anyone, but it's a fun conversation. And I love your little "Vulkling" self-portrait. :)
Thanks, Johnny! I loved Phlox and I think Denobulans are really awesome. A Denobulan/Betazoid mix sounds like the most fun, empathetic person ever.
DeleteI think I'd be half Trill and half Betazoid. I'm all about new experiences, but I love the whole telepath/empath thing. :)
ReplyDeleteOoo. A Trill/Betazoid combination would be amazing!
DeleteI'm definitely a full Cardassian!
ReplyDeleteHa! I think there's something very striking about the way the Cardassians look!
DeleteI thought for sure I'd say Vulcan, or maybe Romulan- but then I watched the early Voyager episode Ex Post Facto, and fell in love with the avian look of the Baneans. I think I need to go Vulcan/Banean. Or full Banean- I'll leave it up to you if I should be the fortunate recipient!
ReplyDeleteI'm commenting, I shared it with a scifi fandom group, I pinned it on my Pinterest fandom board, and I tweeted a link to your post. Thanks AshleyRose, you rock!
Thank YOU KJ! I've always referred to the Baneans as "Feather Heads." There really something special about the way they look. I love the idea that, like the Cardassians, they had a bird/reptile ancestor rather than primate. So pretty! And a Vulcan/Banean combination would be pretty awesome!
DeleteI would like to be a Klingon or Romulan...but I would probably just be a Tribble.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, but just wanted to say thanks for getting me inspired to watch TNG. :)
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteI am loving this blog!! I found myself here by accident, after clicking Star Trek things on the Internet. Must have been meant to be.
I'm sending a link to my sister-in-law who lives in the Netherlands and has even been to a Star Trek themed restaurant over there. I know, i know. Can you believe it?
Anyway, I am too late for the contest, but I just have to chime in on my species. Andorian and El-Aurian. Yep, El-Auriandorian.
It's great to hear from you, Sandi! I love the El-Auriandorian idea! I just may have to do another of these contests before the year is out. I've got a lot of new readers since I did this one.
DeleteWow, I know I'm super late to the party on this, but I stumbled upon this blog a week ago and read it in its entirety in three days. I've also managed to tell many people about it, as I'm in the middle of 'Star Trek Summer', where my goal is to consume as much Star Trek as I can every day between June 1 and September 1. So I kind of feel a kinship with you in that :)
ReplyDeleteI've absolutely loved your posts on Voyager (the series I'm currently watching), but I keep thinking about this particular post, wandering what species I would be and wishing I had a sweet portrait of myself...
After much debating with my boyfriend (who'd never seen any Star Trek until I got ahold of him), I've decided I'm half-Bajoran, half-Vulcan. I'm also most definitely a science officer in Starfleet :)
Lovin' the blog!
My parents keep insisting that i'm a romulan/ klingon...even though i'm not like them at all. I like Talaxians, they look cool.
