Generic Ensign

I started Generic Ensign (during 2015's run through Voyager) as a way to explore the episodes of Star Trek from another point of view—that of the anonymous crewman. I often think about things from the POV of background characters because I think it can be really funny and these posts were a way to expand on those fleeting thoughts.

In 2016 when I started having fairly troublesome health issues (related to a condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which I've also written about here) I couldn't continue the sort of written posts I'd done since 2013. I'm in a lot of pain from my hands and, until it gets better, I can't continue to type more than a few minutes at a time. I need to save my hands for my art and the typing I have to do for work.

So, after a lot of thought, I decided to start doing Generic Ensign posts as Video Logs. And that's what you'll find a lot of here now. Me, as Generic Ensign, commenting on the events in Star Trek from the point of view of someone who, like most of the hundreds of crewmen in the Federation, don't really matter.

You can find all of the Generic Ensign posts here.
